The four-day weekend has begun!
Elle and I spent the day at Westfield in Stratford today. Yes, it really is possible to spend an entire day enjoying this grandiose shopping mall.
Our first port of call was Starbucks, where we redeemed our free coffee of the week. The photo above features cups signed by atheletes who were here during the London 2012 Olympics.
With a hit of caffeine in our system, we hit the main concourse for some window shopping. We came away with the some nice finds including bright additions to our future summer wardrobe.
This was a spring display that had been put up temporarily.
Elle always looks so natural in hats.
A cereal bar with a free pick n’ mix. I know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow 🙂
We had to visit Lush… naturally 😉 I picked up some tattoo brightener (I have one on my arm). As always, Lush staff are friendly, genuine and full of helpful information. We also visited Victoria’s Secret, where I – and the other two guys in the shop – just followed our partners around while desperately trying to look casual (!)
The food court at Westfield is really something else. You’re spoilt for choice and there’s plenty of seating. I went for a jumbo fish finger wrap (a childish guilty pleasure of mine) while Elle went for noodles and buns.
After lunch, we took rest in a nearby gaming pub called Loading. This is a converted Princess of Wales pub that is now called Secret Weapon and it’s only a short walk away from the main shopping area.
There’s some interesting gaming memorabilia behind the bar and an assortment of board games and consoles to play on. Normally they do game themed cocktails but only at their other bar in Dalston. We did enjoy some Jenga and Rocket League though.
After re-charging at the pub, we returned to Westfield to redeem our free movie of the week… Batman v Superman. This film was such a mess I’m not even going to waste time writing about it. If you’ve seen Deadpool, you’ve already seen the best superhero offering of 2016 so far.
We ended the day with dinner at Pizza Express. We’d hoped to go to TGI Fridays but it was rammed (Westfield is still pretty lively at night time). The food we had was very good and it was accompanied by a very agreeable Merlot.
A raspberry sorbet and some profiteroles rounded off the meal nicely. By the time we finished dinner, the mall had finally emptied and we were able to make our way to the adjacent tube station without any crowds in our way.
As I write this, we’re on the train home and looking forward to some rest. I hope you’ve all had a great Friday too! 🙂
