Christmas Time

Above the skies of London, snow is gently falling.

The white snowflakes make a beautiful contrast against the inky dark skies. Enduring the brittle air suddenly doesn’t seem so bad. While the snow hasn’t settled here like it has in other parts of the UK, it still makes me happy to see it fall. There’s just something about snow that feels peaceful and magical.

And speaking of magic… the Christmas tree is up!

I love decorating the place at Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚ There’s nothing like some twinkling lights to make the place feel warm and inviting. Last year, Elle and I decided not to put up any decorations as she was in the final stage of pregnancy with Zack. Although the due date was at the beginning of January, the possibility of him arriving early would have made the already cumbersome job packaging away decorations even more difficult.

So this year, we’ve returned to our usual routine.

Of course, we’re not the only ones who have decorated. The shopping malls are decked out with seasonal trimmings, as usual.

I’ve even decorated my apartment in the video game, Final Fantasy XIV.

The game does a variety of seasonal events throughout the year, but the Christmas one is my favourite (called the Starlight Celebration). All the major populated areas of the game are decorated with a Christmas theme, with the weather permanently set to falling snow and relaxing festive music playing in the background.

Speaking of video games, Pokemon Go is in the middle of it’s Christmas event. I managed to catch this little critter the other night.

Although I’ve been late this year due to a variety of reasons, preparations are fully underway for Christmas. As Zack had a peaceful evening of sleep, I even managed to find time to continue one of my favourite Christmas traditions… wrapping all the presents while watching an Avengers movie ๐Ÿ™‚

This year I went with Civil War, which is my favourite superhero film of all time ๐Ÿ˜€

Another tradition is buying the famed Christmas edition of the Radio Times.

We never buy the Radio Times except at Christmas… which is something I suspect is true of many people. And like me, I’m sure the first thing everyone does is remove the annoying holiday supplement in the middle ๐Ÿ˜›

Every year, Elle and I also watch a variety of Christmas films including Love Actually, Elf, A Muppet’s Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, Joyeux Noel (which we saw for the first time this year), and It’s a Wonderful Life (which gets so depressing that I’ve actually grown to resent it) ๐Ÿ˜›

I absolutely love the Christmas card Elle has gotten me this year ๐Ÿ™‚

As first time parents, Elle and I added a new ‘first’ to our growing list of firsts… taking our son Zack for his first visit to Santa Claus!

Of course next year, the plan is for me to dress up as Santa ๐Ÿ˜‰ Elle laughed at my Santa impression but I’m still doing it when Zack is older! It’s every parent’s privilege! But I’ll have to wait another 12 months until I can write that particular blog ๐Ÿ˜›

For now, I hope you’re all enjoying the festive season. Thanks for reading, folks!

    1. That’s awesome! Parenthood has been a real journey for me this year ๐Ÿ™‚ and it’s never too late to start a tradition if you want to. My ‘Avengers Wrapping’ sessions have only been a thing since 2012 and kind of just happened every year after ๐Ÿ™‚
