The Little Things

As the old saying goes, it’s the little things in life that make you smile. We all have those little things that bring us a bit of comfort or joy.

I’m not talking about the big things like family or love. I’m talking about the silly little things that may seem insignificant or weird to others.

Here are some of mine 🙂

Getting a Parcel Delivered

I love the feeling of opening up a parcel, even if I know what’s inside. I can’t really explain why. Maybe it reminds me of opening up Christmas presents.

The Feel of Sunshine on My Skin

I love the tingle I feel as sun hits my skin. Good summers are rare in London so I really savour sunny days when we get them.

The First Sip of Cold Beer

Oh yeeeeeaaahhh (^_^) After work/commuting, this instantly removes all tension. That first sip is everything.

The First Sip of Hot Tea

Similarly, a hot cup of tea does wonders first thing in the morning. Especially in my new Final Fantasy XIV mug!

Online Multiplayer

I’ve never really gotten over the ‘novelty’ of playing a game with someone on the other side of the world. It’s the kind of thing that was only a dream to me when I was a child. Now it’s a reality. In fact it’s so common these days you can even do it on your phone while you’re out and about. We are living in a future I could only dream of when I was younger.

Game Updates

This may seem like the weirdest one, but I love downloading updates to a game I’m currently playing. It just feels cool to receive new content for something I already enjoy. I know a lot of gamers complain about time consuming updates, but honestly I find it satisfying to watch that progress bar reach 100%.

Commuting in London is… well… grimy. Washing the day off feels soothing and therapeutic to me. And thanks to my wife, we have an endless supply of Lush shower gel… some of which feels pretty luxurious.

So those are my ‘little things’ 🙂 What little things do you have? Feel free to share them in the comments. Thanks for reading, folks!

  2. I recently turned on my PS4 for Tue first time in several months. We’ve been extremely busy and I finally had some down time. But… the system had to update. No problem; I did some course, came back, reset the system and opened my game… but… the game had to update… long story short, my entire period of free time was spent waiting for updates and I lost my free time…. updates are cool, but not when you have restricted time…
I didn’t mean that to sound so annoyed XD

      1. I can definitely agree about the appreciation of updates though, especially for ESO And No Man’s Sky as those usually mean new content!

  3. A cat’s purr, a child’s laugh, warm socks, freshly washed bed sheets, bubble wrap, warm sand over bare feet, plain water when you haven’t just had water in a long time and you remember how good water is.

  4. I love this blog post idea!! I need to appreciate the little things more. I find that one little thing can ruin my entire day but I should remember all the good little things. 🙂 I’ll be thinking of a list of the things I like haha.

    1. Thanks! 🙂 I hope you do find some. I like to believe everyone has at least one little thing that makes them happy, even if they’re not fully aware of it 🙂
