Over the weekend I was lucky enough to have two reasons to celebrate… this is my sixth year as a husband and my second year as a father.
What a remarkable transformation a baby can have in the space of just 12 short months. Our son Zack is well and truly a toddler now, charging about in pursuit of anything remotely fun or interesting to do.
It’s a world of difference from last year, when he couldn’t really walk because he was just a tiny little itty bitty bubulabooooooooooo 😊
Anyway, to celebrate our wedding anniversary, my wife Elle and I exchanged presents in the morning. The traditional gift for the sixth year is sugar. Elle got me a subscription for Japanese candy, as I loved it in the past.
This is a care package of confectionery sent directly from Japan as it isn’t sold here in the UK. I can’t wait to receive my first package and will be posting a blog in the future when I receive it 🙂
For Elle’s present, I put together a sugar themed care package consisting of sugar scrubs from Lush and The Body Shop as well as some chocolatey treats from Hotel Chocolat.
In the evening, we went out for dinner while our parents watched The Little Man. We wanted to try a place we’d never been to before, so we went to a restaurant called Little Bay.
This is a charming little restaurant run by very warm and welcoming people. I loved the decor, which gave the place a lot of character. The food was also delicious!
I had a halloumi burger with sweet potato fries, which tasted much fancier than it might sound.
For pudding, we had profiteroles with banana, cream and chocolate. This tasted divine but sadly both Elle and I were too full to finish it!
Overall, it was a lovely evening. It always feels great to dress up and go out as a couple.
I feel that’s it’s quite important for parents to take a time-out from parenting sometimes and just be a couple… even if it’s only once or twice a year. It’s just part of a healthy marriage 🙂
On Sunday, it was Father’s Day in the UK. As we usually do on special occasions, Elle and I split the day between my parents and hers. This allows all the dads to celebrate the day with family.
I got some excellent gifts.
The canvas is of Zack and I wearing complimentary outfits, both of which were gifts from my wife. Player 1 and Player 2 needs no explanation for any readers who are gamers. The second photo is a little harder to see, but my top says Copy Ctrl C while Zack’s top says Paste Ctrl V. Gotta love it! 😄
The sake was an inspired choice.
I hadn’t heard of Honjozo Genshu before, but it’s certainly a memorable sake. It has a robust flavour with a strong aftertaste that I can’t quite place… something akin to aniseed but not as harsh. I’m really enjoying it 🙂
So that’s what I’ve been up to. I hope you’re all doing well. Thanks for reading, folks!
