A Week of Indoor Entertainment

The British weather continues to defy it’s own conventions and bless us with hot sunshine in September. Yet the entertainment industry seems to have been pre-programmed for autumn releases to keep us occupied indoors.

Here are some things that have been released this week that I’m excited about 🙂

Avengers: Infinity War

This film got a physical release on DVD and Blu Ray. While I had some big issues with the film, I still enjoyed it. I also want it to ensure my MCU collection is up to date 🙂

Salvation by Peter F. Hamilton

Peter Hamilton has been my favourite author for over two decades. He is a British science fiction writer who crates stunningly detailed universes that deal with extraordinarily broad concepts.

Salvation is the first part of a new trilogy. As such, I’m considering waiting to buy this book. I don’t know when he’ll finish writing part two and I don’t like long waits between novels. Hamilton weaves such complex and intricate plot threads that it’s easy for me to forget what’s going on if I wait year to read the next part of a series.

Destiny 2: Forsaken

This expansion to the online world of Destiny ramps up the narrative stakes on a personal level. The death of a beloved character sets the stage in a great opening mission. What follows is a dark quest for vengeance filled with new enemies and uneasy allies.

What I love about expansions to Destiny is the way they draw the community back. Destiny is one of those games that feels better when you’re playing it in co-op. I love the sense of anticipation when everyone gets excited for the new content to go live.

I’m having a blast with it!

Marvel’s Spider-Man

This game is officially out today but I was fortunate enough to receive my copy early. So far, it is utterly sublime!

Based on the comics instead of the films, it puts it’s characters and story front and centre while boasting some incredibly satisfying gameplay.

The web-swinging and combat feels fluid and intuitive. The set pieces capture the cinematic joy of the films’ action scenes. The original score sounds beautiful and the graphics are simply gorgeous.

I’m only a few hours into the main story, but I’m loving it so far. I foresee many late nights in my future!

So that’s what I’ve been up to this week. Thanks for reading, folks 🙂
