Merry Christmas – 2018

Merry Christmas!

Where ever you are, whatever you’re doing, I hope you’ve had a lovely day.

Christmas for us began in earnest on the 24th with the opening of our Christmas Eve Boxes.

My wife Elle turned me onto this tradition years ago. The idea is to give your loved one a box of items to enjoy that day.

For her, I got a Lush bath bomb and face mask along with hot cocoa, some chocolate and warm slipper socks.

For me, she got a miniature barrel of whisky, some Lush shower gel, warm slipper socks, chocolate and a box of Festive Friends… which is quite possibly the most addictive snack I’ve ever eaten.

Zack also got a box this year. He certainly enjoyed seeing a box full of toys and biscuits. In this picture he’s literally going “Oooooooooh!”

In the evening, we continued another beloved Christmas Eve tradition of ordering Chinese takeaway for dinner.

In the past I always went out into the cold to collect it due to where we used to live. But since we moved to a new place earlier this year, getting takeaway delivered is no longer an issue. Ahhhhh the delights of being lazy 😝

This year… I did something new. Something I’ve never done before. I dressed up as Santa Claus to deliver presents!

My wife and son came down to peek at me filling up their stockings by the fireplace. Of course I pretended not to notice them. According to Elle, Zack bought it!

I particularly enjoyed the cookie and whisky left out for me-I mean Santa. And in case you’re wondering… Santa definitely prefers whisky to a glass of milk.

Definitely πŸ˜‰

And then of course… the big day. Christmas!

We started out by opening our stockings in bed. Zack enjoyed suddenly getting treated to new toys!

Elle made her usual Christmas breakfast for everyone… pancakes and bacon.

After filling our bellies and opening our gifts we headed off to our respective families. Fortunately my parents and Elle’s parents live relatively close to each other so we usually spend half a day with each family.

What ensued was a mix of eating delicious food, fighting illness-related dizziness, looking after a toddler who seems to have started the ‘ The Terrible Twos’ early, and staving off anxiety (over something I’m not ready to blog about yet).

However, I’ve said many times on this blog that I try to focus on the positive things. And today was well spent in the company of dear family. I also received some awesome gifts!

Now I’m back at home, reflecting on the day’s events with a late night tipple. I hope you’ve enjoyed your day, however you spent it.

Merry Christmas, folks!

  1. Looks like a fabulous Christmas! It was just the two of us at home in London for the first time in ages, so it was the most relaxed day I’ve had in years. Another nice day ahead, hopefully, finishing off the too-much-turkey I cooked and putting a dent in the mountain of mince pies. And it looks like Santa was good to everyone this year πŸ™‚

      1. Thanks! It was the first one in London in AGES. Usually we’ve been navigating an airport after packing bags and dealing with last minute pressure and crowds. We’re off to the Netherlands on Sunday and hoping that the world is back to normal by then!
